(HY 6603 2220) Chapel (NR) (Site of)

OS 6" map, Orkney, 2nd ed., (1900).

The site of what may have been one of the three parish churches of Stronsay, apparently dedicated to St. Nicholas since it is shown as 'Nicholas Kirk' in Blaeu's Atlas.

No trace of the church survives in the burial ground.

J Blaeu 1654; Statistical Account (OSA) 1795; RCAHMS 1946, visited 1928.

No trace of a church in a graveyard which is still used. Marwick (H Marwick 1927) describes it as St Nicholas's Church and the dedication is still known locally. A map of Stronsay dated 1750, included in Antiquarian Notes on Stronsay, shows the island divided into three parishes, St. Peter's, Lady, and in the SE, St Nicholas.

Visited by OS (NKB), 17 July 1970.

There is no trace of this church in the burial-ground beside Holland Farm.

RCAHMS 1984, visited July 1979.
