World War One Audit of Surviving Remains (22 October 2013)

In the First World War Edinburgh Castle was the main collection and distribution centre for prisoners of war in Scotland from December 1914. This role diminished with the growth of the camp system, with its HQ at Stobs, near Hawick. The Castle housed the 'Detention House' for officers and PoWs were treated in the military hospital within the castle.

Information from HS/RCAHMS World War One Audit Project (GJB) 22 October 2013.

Activities

Project (March 2013 - September 2013)
