World War One Audit of Surviving Remains (19 June 2013)

The Laurencekirk, High Street, drill hall is a two-storeyed dormered building with four bays to the main street frontage and a single-storey hall behind. The hall has been re-roofed. The entrances to both street-front block and hall are to the side, in a lane. Osborne (2006) suggests that the detached building immediately behind the hall was residential accommodation for an instructor. The street-front building and hall, but not the detached house, are marked on the 3rd epoch Ordnance Survey 1:2500 map. In 1914 the drill hall was the drill station for "C" Squadron, Fife &Forfar Yeomanry and base for " D" Company, 7th battalion Gordon Highlanders. The building is still in use as TA centre.
