The Ha-Ha and a beech hedge define the outer perimeter of the Kitchen Garden. The ha-ha line encloses the north wall, with space for a track to the lean-tos, and the former curling pond area on the south, and 20th century OS maps show a cultivated area defined (probably by fences) within the ha-ha. The ha-ha wall is built in flaky drystone and is generally still present, together with its ditch, although collapsed and the ditch clogged with silt and humus in the wooded areas on south and east sides which have now become contiguous with the adjoining wood.

The ha-ha enclosure is recorded first on the 1st edition OS map (1856) shown in its present form with straight east and west sides and curved north and south ends, with only a linear structure internally near its southern end.
