Note (4 April 2012)

There is a plaque at this location with information on the War Memorial Cairn at the summit of Ben Nevis (NN17SE 3). The plaque reads:

'SPECIAL NOTICE TO CLIMBERS OF BEN NEVIS

The War Memorial Cairn at the summit of Ben Nevis was originally built by young men from Dudley (Worcs) on V.J. Day 15th August 1945.

It was rebuilt 7th July 1957 by young men of Fort William under the leadership of Clifford T. G. Beacham.

Fort William and Dudley have thus united in this act of Remembrance of the Glorious Dead.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.

This tablet was unveiled by Provost M. I. D. Murphie M.A. on Thursday 15th August 1957.'
