Loss (17 February 1827)

(Classified as sloop, with cargo of timber: date of loss cited as 17 February 1827). Jane: [this vessel was] wrecked at the back of the Ness, Montrose. Capt. Laing..

Registration: Banff.

(Location of loss cited as N56 43.00 W2 25.00).

I G Whittaker 1998.

Named Location (Nlo) (2 November 2011)

NLO: Montrose [name: NO 720 572]

Scurdie Ness [name: NO 733 567].

Note (2 November 2011)

(Location entered as NO c. 733 567 [N56 42.10 W2 26.30). The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. 'The Ness' is not noted as such on the 1999 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map, but it is probably to be equated with Scurdie Ness. This prominent rocky headland (which is also known as Montrose Ness or Montroseness) is situated on the S side of the entrance to Montrose Harbour (NO75NW 44.00).

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 2 November 2011.
