Activities

Excavation (22 March 2010 - 5 April 2010)

NT 3508 7212 A monitored topsoil strip and subsequent excavation were undertaken 22 March–5 April 2010 prior to the erection of a new cricket pavilion in the scheduled area of Lewisvale Park. The excavation unearthed a highly significant suite of features, including a large pit containing the formal deposition of two Roman sandstone altars and a sandstone altar base. A linear ditch and gully and a collection of pit and posthole features were also revealed. Both ceramic and metal artefacts were recovered.
