Archaeology Notes

NK06NW 8148 c. 00 66

N57 41 W2 0

NLO: Fraserburgh [name: NK 000 666]

Fraserburgh Bay [name centred NK 017 662].

Possibly on map sheet NJ96NE.

(Classified as Minesweeper: date of loss cited as 28 February 1916). Buzzard: this vessel was wrecked(?) near Fraserburgh. (1907 Hull or 1898 Grimsby?)

Registration: British.

(Location cited as N57 42.00 W2 0.00).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The location assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary. This vessel apparently stranded, rather than being lost as a result of enemy action.

No further information is apparently available regarding this vessel. She is was most probably in requisitioned or auxiliary service, but is not cited as a trawler by Toghill (2003 or 2004), and is cited in the available standard reference works relating to warships of World War One.

It remains unclear whether or not either of the prefixes HMS or HMT is applicable to this vessel.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 18 April 2011.
