Activities

Field Visit (1 March 2009 - 1 April 2009)

Walking through the wood looking for something significant: photographs: measured .

Beside a burn, up a steep slope, under an overhang, in a wood and at the bottom of a waterfall a drystone wall can be found. This measures 2.8 metres long by 0.7 wide by 1.0 high. With the eye of faith it can be extended by about 2 metres at each end and encloses a small, flat area. Oral tradition has it that there was an illicit still in this wood (the Duchall - Dubh Choille - Black Wood). I can think of no other reason for a wall to be in a position such as this. Who operated it and when is not known.
