Activities

Field Visit (3 June 2008 - 12 October 2008)

Two clearly defined sections of an old road (NOSAS site survey numbers 824 and 837) can be seen either side of Carnoch Farmhouse. The course of this road is depicted on an estate map of 1825. The road was realigned to follow its present course circa 1840. On the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Ross-shire 1881, sheet xcvi) the west section of the old road is marked as a track and on the current OS map the majority of the W section is shown only as a path. A small circular enclosure (824) was also recorded immediately adjacent the path.

Further details of these and other associated sites can be found in the Strathconon Phase 4 Report (page 36) produced by the North of Scotland Archaeology Society and appended to this record.
