Observation (1972)
NO 404306. Demolition work revealed a 19th century domestic draw well of dry stone construction. Diameter 0.80m, depth 9m and depth of water 3.90m. Now filled in.

Excavation (1973)
NO 403306. An area 30m x 30m surrounding the well reported in Discovery and Excavation 1972, p2, was stripped in advance of redeveoplment. The aim of the excavation was to check the area for late medieval occupation. No structure earlier than the early 19th century was recorded. Some 17th century coins and a dozen sherds medieval pottery were recovered.
