Architecture Notes

Statue of Alan Breck & David Balfour, sculpted by Sandy Stoddart and unveiled in 2004 by Sir Sean Connery. The statue, depicting characters from the Robert Louis Stevenson novel 'Kidnapped', sits facing Western Corner, an important site within the novel. The statue was erected within the grounds of the United Distillers Headquarters, Balfour Stewart House, which was demolished in early 2010. It sits within the former entrance gateway to Hazelbank, the 19th century villa which occupied the Corstorphine Road site prior to the erection of Balfour Stewart House (1981-84). Statue photographed as part of TBS survey of United Distillers HQ prior to its demolition. (IA - March 2010)
