Field Visit (9 June 1927)
Chapel, Kirkforthar.
On the summit of a low oval mound enclosed by trees, a quarter of a mile south-east of Kirkforthar farm is the ruin of a featureless oblong structure, measuring 28 feet 2 inches from east to west by 14 feet 8 inches within walls which are 2 feet 2 inches to 2 feet 10 inches thick and still stand shoulder high. The entrance which, however, is not original, is a lintelled doorway centred in the west wall; no other openings are traceable.
RCAHMS 1933, visited 9 June 1927.
