Activities

Field Visit (17 May 2011 - 17 May 2011)

Field survey of bow-sided building

Srp Note (10 April 2012)

The remains of this building are situated in rough grassland c250m N of the Allt Na Glaic Luachraich

burn. It lies at 102m OD within a modern fenced enclosure on a S. facing slope overlooking the sea.

The building's dimensions are 11m by 6.5m, with footings surviving to a maximum height of 0.70m. The footings are tumbled especially at the E. end and on a section of the S. wall, but the wall facings can still be seen. The longer walls appear to be bowed, and inside the building parallel to the N wall there is an inner line of facing stones, perhaps indicating a ledge. The walls are made with boulders of varying size with several larger boulders as shown on the drawing. A later shieling hut has been constructed inside the walls.

Information from Anne MacInnes and Anna Welti on 17/05/2011.
