Uninhabited triangular shaped in plan island with small peninsula at the N end, situated on the W side of Scapa Flow.
Previously occupied, but finally abandoned in the 1950's with at least four stone built farmsteads found on the W side.
Large military presence in World War II, mainly light anti-aicraft defences with associated accommodation. The Military requistioned several of the small farmsteads and the earthworks and concrete platforms from this period are found in all parts of the island.
Presently used for seasonal sheep grazing.
