Field Visit (2008)

NC36NW 13 31622 67415

This drystone shelter stands on the NE shoulder of Fashven (460m OD), a steep-sided hill some 9km SE of Cape Wrath. Rectangular on plan with an entrance in its SE side, it measures roughly 2m square over walls 0.6m in thickness and 0.5m in height. Its slab roof has collapsed and only its SW end is well defined. The shelter, which is situated 55m NNW of another (NC27SE 14) that is less well preserved, appears to be of comparatively recent build and may have been constructed as an observation post for use during gunnery and bombing exercises.
