Activities

Standing Building Recording (17 January 2018)

AOC Archaeology Group was commissioned by Persimmon Homes to undertake an historic building survey of the ruinous Wormit Farm on Naughton Road in Fife as part of a pre-planning application. The former farm complex has origins in the late 18th/early 19th century although much of this original phase of the farm was demolished to make way for the modern 1990s barn which now stands on the east side of the site. What remains largely dates from the early 19th century (post-1828) phase of the site to the west of this and consists of a U-shaped steading range consisting of a cart shed, a former threshing barn (with some existing fixtures and fittings still in situ) and a possible later 19th century workshop. The original late 18th/early 19th century farmhouse still survives to the north-west of the site with a brick late-19th century conical tower on its north elevation. No access was permitted to the farmhouse at the time of this survey and, as such, it is recommended that a structural watching brief take place prior to and during the renovations of the building to record any features pertinent to the historical record prior to their removal. This may include features such as the water closet in the turret (should it still be in situ), fireplaces, structural details, early furnishings or plasterwork and blocked openings.
