The slab is said to have borne ‘a hammered outline like a rude cross’.

Date: early medieval or later.

Archaeology Notes

HY50NE 12 c. 552 063.

In 1930 two slabs set 5ft apart were found in the same field as the earth house at South Keigar( HY50NE 9). One slab bore a hammered outline like a rude cross: the whole may have been a burial.

The approximate area of the site was indicated by Mr G Clouston, South Keigar, Deerness, at HY 552 063.
