Archaeology Notes

NG51NW 67 5257 1957

NG 5257 1957 Two stone built shielings lying on the south side of a small burn.

The upper shieling comprises a circular cell which measures 3.0m in diameter over walls 0.65m thick and standing 0.6m high. Attached to the lower south-west side, and accessed by a narrow creep, is a rectangular cell which measures 2.9m long by 2.1m wide over walls 0.7m thick. The lower south-west wall containing the entrance has collapsed down the slope.

4.0m to the south-west and down the slope is a circular stone cell, part collapsed, which measures 3.1m in diameter over walls 0.6m thick. There is no obvious entrance.

Martin Wildgoose, George Kozikowski and Steven Birch, 1997.
