(NO 1976 3034) Dovecot (NAT)

OS 6" map (1959)

A typical lean-to late 17th - early 18th century dovecot.

Visited by OS (RD) 17 February 1969

At the edge of a plantation 60m due E of Bandirran House (NO13SE 23.00), there is a late 17th- or early 18th-century two-compartment lectern dovecot. It measures 8.2m from E to W by 3.8m transversely over rubble walls (originally harled) 0.8m thick; the roof is slated and divided into two stages by a horizontal scarf, while the end-walls are crow-stepped. There is a stepped rat course, with paired bird-entry ports above, and a panel niche.

Visited by RCAHMS (IMS/PC) 23 June 1989.
