Archaeology Notes

NJ02NW 140 NJ 00764 28038.

Glenbeg is a working farmsteading that comprises a farmhouse, a bunkhouse, and a modern stock shed, but it was not recorded in detail on the date of visit. However, on the N side of the steading, immediately NW of Glenbeg House, are the fragmentary, grass-grown footings of a building that is depicted roofed on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Elginshire 1874 sheet xxxii). The footings, which measure 5.5m from NNE to SSW by 3.8m transversely over all, represent the N end of one of seven roofed buildings depicted here on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Elginshire 1874 sheet xxxii). At the SE edge of the steading are the abutments of a bridge.

Visited by RCAHMS (AGCH) 11 October 2006.
