Cromarty, 4th Oct. A schooner and a sloop are reported to be on shore on Whiteness Head, between Nairn and Fort St. George.

Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 12,647, London, Saturday October 7 1854.

Cromarty, 7th Oct. The schooner reported ashore at Whiteness Head, 3rd Oct., is a Prussian, Kelmke, master, from Memel to Liverpool, with hemp, she was but a little damaged, and would be got off with the flood and proceed if the weather continued moderate.

Cromarty, 12th Oct. The Prussian schooner, Kelmke, Master, from Memel to Liverpool, which was ashore at Whiteness Head, 3rd Oct., has got off.

Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 12,654, London, Monday October 16 1854.

NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 9045).

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative, the shingle spit of Whiteness Head having presumably developed significantly (towards the W) since the loss. The major artillery fortification of Fort George (NH75NE 3.00) is at NH 76079 56674.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably on account of her successful recovery.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 28 September 2006.
