Archaeology Notes

NO12SW 153 118 236.

A coin hoard was discovered in 1812, probably during the re-building of a house near to Parliament Close in the High Street, and not during the demolition of the Parliament House as suggested by the NSA (cf. NO12SW 47). The coins were silver pennies and halfpennies chiefly of the reigns of Bruce, Balliol and Alexander, and were probably deposited between 1318 and 1360. The present whereabouts of the hoard is not known.

NSA 1845; P Baxter 1927; D M Metcalf 1977; A S Simpson and A T Stevenson 1982.
