Archaeology Notes

NJ02SW 55 NJ 03843 24133.

This limekiln is situated in heather moorland 260m E of the ruins of Brae of Revack steading (NJ02SW 54). It has been set into a SSW-facings slope to a depth of at least 1.8m, and its oval pot, which measures 2.8m from NNE to SSW by 2.2m transversely, is still open to a depth of 1.5m. The splayed draw-hole is on the SSW side, and here the outer face still stands 1.2m high. The draw-hole is flanked on the NW and SE respectively by two walls, reduced to footings, which extend about 3m to the SW.
