Archaeology Notes

NT17NW 181.17 12314 78621 and 12348 78614

Sheds 2 and 3 are situated at the SE corner of the repair shed complex. Built of brick and concrete with corrugated iron gable ends they are almost L-shaped in plan.

Internally they are steel framed. In shed 2 the steam pipe system, water tank at roof level with external wooden cover and several roof hung electric heaters survive. Some windows are boarded, others have external iron bars. On the N wall are two corrugated roller shutters with chain hoist covering windows.

In the eastern extension is a separate room entered from the S elevation containing a small asbestos clad boiler with a small asbestos clad iron coal fired heater with 'Domestic' and 'Noco Doors' in raised letters on the front.

Shed 3 was not entered, but has recently been used for polystyrene production and storage.

The Sheds originally were used in the following way, Shed 2 for MT Garage and a Lay-Apart Store and Shed 3 as the Scientific Block.
