Archaeology Notes

ND16NE 106 15634 69467.

This large farmstead is E-shaped on plan, open to the E, with a range across the end of the central arm creating entrances into the two courtyards, that on the N containing a large new shed, and that on the S two covered cattle courts. The E range includes a six-bay cart shed with granary above, and has a byre on one side and a stable on the other. A barn with hay loft lies to its rear. The steading also incorporates byres and stores, and has a stable block detached to the N and a piggery detached to the E. The buildings are of roughly coursed flagstone and are roofed with slate or corrugated material. Several new sheds have been added in recent years in and around the steading. The farmhouse and cottages form a S-facing row to the SE and are occupied by the two owners of the steading, the farmland and steading now being divided. The site was visited in 1993 and 2000.
