Aerial Photographic Interpretation (7 May 2013)

Two pit circles, both of which may be the remains of timber circles, and two ring ditches, probably the remains of barrows, have been recorded as cropmarks on oblique aerial photographs (RCAHMSAP 1978, 1983, 1992, 1996) some 200m NE of Gateside. The barrows lie adjacent to one another and measure about 10m in diameter within ditches 2m across. One of the pit circles (NO 18820 09459) lies within the easternmost ring ditch and measures about 7m in diameter , while the second lies 40m to the SSW (NO 18766 09440) and is about 10m in diameter.
