Portnalong and Fiskavaig. Good examples of improved cottages built to standard specifications, many with corrugated iron walls sandwiched between concrete gables. The Scottish Board of Agriculture acquired the land in 1923 and created new crofts. These smallholdings were allocated mostly to weavers from the overcrowded townships of Harris and Lewis as part of a programme offering financial assistance, education facilities and cultivation advice.
