NLO: Pentland Firth [name centred ND 35 81].

Fraserburgh, 13th May. 'The ELIZA, of Kirkcudbright, in coming through the Pentland Frith [Firth], got on the rocks and became leaky; crew (except one man) drowned.'

Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 9417, London, Friday May 17 1844.

NMRS, MS/829/71 (no. 7865).

The map sheet assigned to this record is arbitrary; the location of the stranding may lie within the quasi-administrative area defined as Maritime - Orkney.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), possibly suggesting her successful recovery.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 29 September 2005.
