Dunnet, by Thurso, 10th Dec. The LARNE (barque), Shewan, of and for Leith, from Quebec, lost sails and spars off Dunnet Head, and went on shore in Brough Bay, Pentland Firth, at about 5 p.m. to-day: crew saved: vessel a total wreck.

The location, map sheet and quasi-administrative area assigned to this record are essentially tentative. The vessel may have been lost within the area designated as Maritime - Highland.
The most probable location for this loss is on the SW point of South Ronaldsay, Orkney, where the 1998 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map notes Brough and Brough Ness at ND 445 833 and ND 445 827 respectively. Brough Bay may be equated with the small bay of Bur Wick, to the W of Brough.
