Archaeology Notes

NT27NE 8148 c. 26 77

N55 59 W3 11

NLO: Port of Leith [name: NT 265 775].

(Classified as snow: no cargo specified, but date of loss cited as 7 February 1856). Voyager: this vessel was lost (?) at Leith Roads. Still in 1860 register: is this the correct ship?

Registration: Sunderland. Built 1832. 230nrt.

(Location of loss cited as N56 0.0 W3 10.0).

I G Whittaker 1998.

A location at NT c. 26 77 is suggested for this loss, although it remains unclear where (in anywhere) the vessel was washed ashore. The former area of Leith Roads is incorporated within the Outer Harbour at Leith Docks (NT27NE 57.00, centred NT 2677 7737).

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 11 August 2005.
