Bowmore, Islay, 22d Nov. 'On Friday last a most severe gale was experienced here: the CHRISTIAN of Rothsay, Gillies, from Liverpool to Sligo: the JOHN & MARY, of Killala, laden with coals, and the JURA of Greenock, Shaw, laden with barley, were driven on shore at Port Ellen about eleven miles from this place, but it is expected will be got off after discharging.'

NMRS, MS/829/71 (no. 6457).

The location assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably suggesting her successful recovery.
