Archaeology Notes

NO40SE 374 centred 4810 0025

A group of three lengths of anti-landing ditches have been identified from RAF vertical air photographs (106G/Scot/UK 4, Pt.II, 6159-6160, 14 April 1946) in a field immediately N of Elie, Grange Road.

In plan they take the form an 'H' with an extension running E towards the fence boundary. All are a trench with a row of pits to each side. The ditches form part of a larger group which fall on Earlsferry Links which falls on map sheet NT49NE. (see NT49NE 131)

Subsequent vertical air photographs show the soil marks of the ditches, which had been filled in immediately after the end of the war.
