Archaeology Notes

NO02SW 8 0287 2078.

NO 028 207: A possible Roman signal station 2,850' E of the remains of that at Midgate (NO01NW 6), was identified as a circular mark, about 20m in diameter, in an arable field where the modern lane diverges from the line of the Roman road (RR 9b), here ploughed out.

Situated just below the crest of the ridge on a gentle S-facing slope. Field under young crop. Nothing visible.

Visited by OS (J P) 1 May 1975.

On the date of visit, the site of this watch-tower had been ploughed recently, but no remains were identifiable.
