NT 0890 8765 An evaluation was undertaken in October 2003 in advance of development. The site is located within the ancient burgh of Dunfermline. The evaluation revealed that the frontage contained no archaeology, as it had previously been scarped down to natural boulder clay to level the site. However, further back on the site archaeology had been preserved.
Two phases of activity were recorded. Phase I represented what was considered to be medieval horticultural soil containing some fragments of medieval pottery. Phase II was much later and comprised 19th and 20th-century walls, cobble floors, and services which cut through, and in places sealed, Phase I garden soil. No medieval features or other deposits were found within or below the medieval horticultural soil.
Archive to be deposited in the NMRS.
