NLO: Keiss [name: ND 347 612]

Keiss Castle [name: ND 356 617]

Wick [name: ND 362 508]

Sinclair's Bay [name centred ND 37 56]

Pentland Firth [name centred ND 35 81].

Possibly on map sheets or ND36SW.

Wick, 23rd Dec., 6 p.m., a foreign schooner, name unknown, has stranded in Kees [Keiss] bay: four volunteer crew drowned: "these" (?three) of the crew yet on board.

Source: Shipping Intelligence, LL, No. 19,554, London, Tuesday December 26 [1876].

NMRS, MS/829/70 (no. 4511).

The map sheet assigned to this record is arbitrary. Kees [Keiss] Bay is not noted as such on the 1999 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map. It is presumably to be equated with Sinclair's Bay.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), possibly suggesting that she was successfully reloated.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 7 October 2004.
