Archaeology Notes

NC91SE 34 95440 10799

The footings of a four compartment cottage has been identified from postwar RAF vertical air photographs (CPE/Scot/UK 225, 3427-3428, flown 27 June 1947) about 140 m E of the former Crackaig farm lodge (NC 95581 10813). The footings and internal building divisions are clearly visible on the air photographs.

The cottage is depicted as roofed on the 1st edition of the OS 25-inch map (Sutherland, 1879, sheet lxxxix) and unroofed on the 2nd edition OS 25-inch map (1901), the latter also showing the four compartment layout.
