Campbeltown, 15th Nov., 8 p.m., the WILLIAM & CAROLINE, of Carnarvon, has lost anchor and chain in Sanda harbour.
Source: Shipping Intelligence, LL, No. 19,834, London, Monday November 19 [1877].
NMRS, MS/829/70 (no. 4697).
The location of loss assigned to this record is essentially tentative. The 'harbour at Sanda' is not noted on the 1997 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map, but the description may refer to Oitir Buidhe, a pronounced and apparently sheltered indentation into the N side of the island, within which there are now two slipways (NR70SW 5 and NR70SW 6 ).
This loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), which may suggest that she was successfully recovered.
