Archaeology Notes

NN86SE 14 centred 8525 6333

At NN 8525 6333 is the ruined settlement of Carrick, depopulated c. 1850, comprising thirteen buildings and one corn-drying kiln. The remains are generally grass-covered footings c.0.5m high although the walls of one building are 1.3m high. The buildings vary in size from 8.0m x 3.0m to 18.0m to 3.0m.

A township comprising one roofed, seven unroofed buildings, one of which is a long building, four enclosures and a lime kiln is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1867, sheet xxx). Eleven unroofed buildings and a kiln, annotated as disused, are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1993).
