Archaeology Notes

NN83NE 6 8619 3752.

An artificial island or crannog was observed by the Rev A R Irvine of Blair Athole, in Loch Freuchie. (Possibly the island at NN 862 375.)

J Stuart 1868

At NN 8619 3752 is a crannog (name unknown), most likely that observed by Irvine. It is composed of rubble stones and measures 33.0m E-W by 17.5m, with a maximum height of 1.8m in the W half. The island has been planted with conifers. The extent under water could not be definitely ascertained.
