Archaeology Notes

NN74SW 13 7251 4477

NN 725 448. Beside the corn kiln (NN74SW 14) is a smooth boulder 7' x 6'3" x 1'8" thick on which are three cup-marks, the largest 3" in diameter. Further S along the hillside are two more stones, one 3'6" x 3' with three small cup-marks. The other, 6'3" x 3'6" x 2'6" thick, has five cup-marks, the largest 3" in diameter.

Breadalbane Archaeol Soc 1968.

Centred on NN 7251 4477 are three cup-marked rocks (A - C).

'A' is 1.3m x 1.0m x 0.8m high and bears three small cup-marks.

'B' lies flush to the ground; it measures 1.1m x 1.0m and has c. 6 small cups.

'C' is 2.2m x 1.0m x 0.9m high and bears 3 - 4 indistinct cups.

Though the dimensions and particulars of the rocks do not agree precisely with the Breadalbane Archaeol Soc description, it is possible, because of the similar location, that they are the same. No other cup-marked boulders can be identified in the area.
