Archaeology Notes

NN70SW 6 71 03.

Two stones, preserved at Doune Lodge, in 1895 and found respectively in the Coillechat Burn and the Annet Burn have been claimed to be inscribed (Information from E W B Nicholson in Academy 23 May 1896 & 27 October 1894) but almost certainly were not.

Stones not located. Enquiries at Doune Lodge and Doune Estate office failed to find any information.

Visited by OS (WDJ) 18 October 1968.

Note (9 April 2019)

A member of the public has informed HES that the stone found in the Annet Burn (Anderson 1897, Fig. 13) now resides in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (Acc. No. 1966.1175).
