Field Visit (26 June 2018)

A figure painted by street artist Stormie Mills in October 2017 occupies almost the full height of the gable end of the Griffin Public House on Sauchiehall Lane. The black and white giant is the central trope that the artist has been painting globally for over 15 years. The figure casts a shadow below, which has been tagged at various times and in some cases painted over. A griffin, which was the previous figure painted on the gable has not been completely obscured and its upper part can be seen above the giant’s head.

The following is a description of the work by Stormie Mills, ‘The lost giant is a series, connected to my childhood of travel and being lost. The giant is looking across to the theatre hence the crown and completing a sense a belonging’.

Visited by HES Survey and Recording (AGCH) 26 June 2018.
