Archaeology Notes

NN34NE 001 3499 4544.

Above railway footbridge at Crannach, in scrubby woodland, two terraced- in platforms c.5m diameter.

A Kahane 1979

NN 3499 4544 About 70m ESE of footbridge number 180 on the West Highland Line are two small flat circular areas scooped into the slope. They are situated within a small deer fenced enclosure on the NW-facing slope.

The scooped area to the S, which is barely discernable as the slope is so gently, measures 4.1m by 5.5m and 1.25m in depth at the rear.

About 16m to the N is a simialr scoop which measures 3.4m across by 4.9m and about 1m at the front.

There is no eveidence of any construction on either of these level areas but the vicinity of footbridge 180 suggests that they may have been related to its construction.
