Archaeology Notes ( - 1973)

NN10NE 1 1743 0633.

NN 174 062: There are 7 shallow cups and a 'basin', all possibly natural, on a boulder, 9' x 6' x 0.3', situated 105 yds S of sheepfold, 25 yds N of ruined village.

R W B Morris 1969; Information from R W B Morris Ms.

NN 1741 0634: Most of these cups are probably genuine. The basin is a 'knocking stone' associated with the depopulated steading at NN 174 063.

Surveyed at 1:10,000.

Visited by OS (D W R) 5 March 1973.

Field Visit (April 1986)

The last slab (of three, see also NN10NE 4) lies about 40m NW of NN10NE 4 and immediately S of a ruined building; on its upper surface there is a barley-husking mortar and nine cupmark-like depressions which may be of comparatively recent date (Morris 1969).

Visited April 1986
