World War One Audit of Surviving Remains (1 October 2013)

The building is marked as a drill hall on the 2nd and 3rd epoch OS 1:2500 maps of the town (surveyed 1901 and 1921) and therefore seems to have been in military use during the First World War. The hall is not included in Osborne's list of UK drill halls.

Architecture Notes

Single storey rectangular hall, c. 1870. Possibly built as the hall for the 1st Forfarshire Artilliary Volunteers.

Converted to cinema c.1936 with the addition of a balcony, apparently using decorative elements from the yacht of Kaiser William III, The Homeric latterly a cruise ship.

Currently a car show room.
