Archaeology Notes ( - 1973)

NN00NE 4 0872 0801

NN 086 080. This cairn measures 31' by 48' by 3'; it has a clearer kerb than NN00NE 3, and may have an inner setting of large boulders. Some field clearance has been added to it.

A wood between this cairn and the avenue behind the new council houses has some heaps of stones in it, possibly a mixture of cairn material and field clearance.

M Campbell 1961; M Campbell and M Sandeman 1964.

NN 0873 0802: A cairn measuring 14.5m NW-SE by 9.5m and 0.7m high. No definite kerb is visible, and large boulders on its summit are probably field clearance. Only a scattering of recent field clearance is visible in the wood to the SE.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (DWR) 9 March 1973.

Activities

RCAHMS 1988, visited April 1981.
