NN00NE 2 0880 0813

NN 088 082. A cairn, 64' x 74' x 3', is situated in a marshy arable field W of the long avenue running behind the new Council houses in the Newtown area. It is hollow in the centre and some kerb is traceable; some field clearance and recent rubbish has been added to it.

M Campbell 1961; M Campbell and M Sandeman 1964.

NN 0881 0813: This cairn (the original profile of which has been destroyed by field clearance) measures 25.5m NW-SE by 19.5m NE-SW and up to 1.6m high. One or two earthfast stones around the periphery are probably kerb stones.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (DWR), 8 March 1973.

Activities

Field Visit (April 1981)

This mutilated cairn measures 21.3m from N to S by 19.2m transversely and stands to a height of about 1m. There are many large stones close to the perimeter, but only one, on the S, is probably a kerbstone.

RCAHMS 1988, visited April 1981.
