below Mansemas Hill HY 3767 3128 HY33SE 33

A grass-covered mound measuring about 6m in diameter, with projecting stones.

RCAHMS 1982, visited August 1980

(OR 542)

Field Visit (26 April 1994)

It is possible that this structure represents the remains of a house rather than a cairn. It is located to the rear of a terrace in a sheltered location overlooking Quendal. It is vaguely ring-shaped rather than a mound.

Measuring 8.1m by 6.5m and 0.4m in height, some earthfast slabs are visible.

Information from the Orkney Barrows Project (JD), 1994

Field Visit (12 May 2015)

What are probably the remains of a hut are marked by a grass-grown mound which sits at the NE edge of a broad stream gully at the foot of the NW flank of Mansemass Hill. The mound measures about 5m in diameter by 0.2m in height.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 12 May 2015.
