Archaeology Notes

NM82NW 6 8267 2867.

NM 826 287. About 70 yards west of the schoolhouse on the island of Kerrera, and about quarter of a mile inland from the Sound of Kerrera is a granite boulder, 2'6" wide and 2'6" high embedded in the north bank of Schoolhouse burn. It contains a basin 8" in diameter and 5 1/2" deep. Allen refers to it as a 'cup'. Morris suggests it may have been a font or a bowl for propitiatory offerings.

The RCAHMS considers it most likely to have been a discarded knocking-stone, and states it is not cup-marked.
